Howdy! With the growing concern about the corona virus situation, I wanted to pass along some helpful information. First, I will continue to be meeting with clients in my office. If you are wanting to schedule as a new client, please feel free to contact me. Of course, current clients are welcome to continue scheduling appointments to meet in person. I will be taking every precaution to keep the office sanitized every day to ensure a clean and safe atmosphere.
Second, therapy can take place by videoconference if you can’t make it in person. This has been an option in my practice for the past three years and studies show it can be just as effective as a face-to-face visit. The cost is the same as an office visit, and if you are using insurance or your EAP it is likely covered as well. For more information, you can visit my online therapy page.
There are no additional programs or apps to download, it is done through your client portal. This method also complies with all HIPAA security standards, as opposed to Skype, Facetime, or other methods of videoconferencing. Your privacy and confidentiality are still maintained. Please let me know if this is an option you want to explore. All you need is a computer with a video camera and an internet connection!
The news of the corona virus certainly sounds scary and information about it is updating daily. The medical community is working hard to learn about how it works, who is most vulnerable, and how to best treat it. It is common to feel anxious because this is a new phenomenon and we are still learning about it. If you feel it would be helpful to schedule a time to meet in person or by videoconference, don’t hesitate to let me know.
While this can be an inconvenience, you can make the most of this challenge. If you are choosing to limit your movements, use the time to spend with your family. Play games, talk to each other, choose a TV show to binge together, experiment with a new recipe in the kitchen – anything that promotes connection. Use the opportunity to connect with others as well. Call your family, reach out to a friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Stay active with moderate exercise at home. Been putting off some cleaning and organizing around your home? This is a good time to start!
The science behind this is very clear. When we feel connected to others and personally productive, it helps boost our immune system and promotes good physical and emotional health. This will get better and we will all be stronger as a result of this challenge. In the meantime, if you are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or strained in relationships, etc. know that you can contact me anytime by calling my office number (817) 795-0007 or sending me a message through my website or your client portal.
